What is a W-2G and why did I receive it?

Winnings that meet certain state or federal thresholds must be reported to the IRS for tax purposes. There may be tax withheld from your winnings, depending on how much you’ve won, and what game you were playing. You will receive a W-2G Tax Form if your gaming play meets any of the following criteria:

  • $600 or more in Gambling winnings and the Payout is at least 300 times the amount of the wager

    • Excludes Gambling Winnings from Bingo, Keno, and Slot Machines

  • $1,200 or more in Gambling Winnings from Bingo or Slot Machines 

  • The Winnings (reduced by the sum of the Wager or Buy-in) total more than $5,000 from a poker tournament

  • $1,500 or more in proceeds (the amount of winnings less/minus the amount of the wager) from Keno; OR

  • Any Gambling Winnings subject to federal income tax withholding 

    1. Withholding is Required when the winnings, minus the bet, are:

      • Greater than $5,000 from sweepstakes, wagering pools, lotteries 
      • At least 300 times (300x) the amount of the bet
